English & Spanish Consultations

Spanish-Speaking Doctor in Corona, CA

If you have ever left a doctor’s office nodding at something you did not fully understand, this page is for you.

Dr. Laura Nieves is fluent in Spanish, and our front desk is bilingual. That means you can call and schedule in Spanish, check in in Spanish, and have your entire visit with Dr. Nieves in Spanish — no phone interpreter, no family member translating.

Why it changes the medicine, not just the comfort

When you describe a symptom in a second language, you simplify without meaning to. You reach for the word you know instead of the word you mean. You skip the detail that felt too complicated to explain. You say “it hurts” when what you meant was a specific kind of pain, in a specific place, that started at a specific time.

The person across from you then makes a decision based on the version you managed to say. That is how things get missed.

Understanding runs the other way too. Instructions, dosages, side effects, warning signs — that is a lot to absorb in any language. In a second one, under stress, while feeling unwell, much of it does not land. People do not abandon treatment because they do not care. Often they abandon it because nobody explained it in a way that stuck.

And no child in your family should be asked to translate a diagnosis for a parent. That practice is common, and it should not be. It puts an unfair weight on a kid and it filters what an adult is willing to say.

Being straight with you about our team

Dr. Nieves and our front desk staff speak Spanish. Sabrina Monfils, PA-C, our physician assistant, does not — her visits are in English.

So when you call, just tell us you would prefer Spanish and we will book you with Dr. Nieves. We would rather tell you that now than have you find out in the exam room.

Why Corona deserves this

Nearly half of Corona is Hispanic or Latino, and roughly 45% of households here speak a language other than English at home. For a great many of those families, care in Spanish has meant making do. It should be the standard here, not a feature.
